Ocean Quest VR: facts and sources.
Ocean Quest VR is an interactive ocean-learning experience developed by Neptune’s Submerge in Greater Manchester. School workshops combine reef exploration, pollution investigation and rescue or clean-up activities with facilitation and reflection.
School workshop packages
| Package | Starting price | Workshops | Maximum planned reach |
|---|---|---|---|
| Half-day Ocean Quest school visit | From £450 | 3 × 45 minutes | Up to 36 learners |
| Full-day Ocean Quest school visit | From £750 | 6 × 45 minutes | Up to 72 learners |
Each standard workshop is planned for up to 12 learners using six Meta Quest headsets in two rotations. One Neptune’s Submerge facilitator leads the activity, with school staff supporting supervision and safeguarding. Setup, hygiene materials, guided activities and teacher reflection prompts are included.
Travel is included within 50 road miles of Manchester. Final capacity, timetable, VAT treatment, total payable and additional travel are confirmed in writing before booking.
SEND participation and life skills
Smaller groups of 4–6 learners are a planning starting point. Staff agree communication methods, comfort, breaks and non-headset participation around individual needs. Activities can create opportunities to practise communication, turn-taking, teamwork and decision-making; learning improvements need evaluation in each setting.

- University of Salford company case study: describes technical support for Neptune’s Submerge’s VR development, with an accompanying film.
- Hollinwood Academy Year 10 workshop: the school’s own 10 July 2026 report describes the NSUB visit and ocean activities.
- The Manchester College delivery: more than 500 learners reached. This is participation reach, rather than a measured learning gain.
- MMU pilot and Salford-linked Year 5 pilot: early feedback is reported with limitations. Participant counts and exact evaluation instruments are not currently published.
Delivery experience, participant feedback and assessed learning are different forms of evidence. No outcome is guaranteed for another school or learner group.
